responsibilities:
- Oversee and maintain the company's general ledger.
- Ensure accurate posting, allocation, and compliance with GAAP and company policies.
- Review and approve journal entries, ensuring proper classification and documentation.
- Manage monthly balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
- Provide detailed analysis and ensure proper documentation for all accounts.
- Oversee timely accruals and adjustments in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Lead close processes, ensuring deadlines and accuracy for all financial statements.
- Drive efficiency improvements to achieve a 3-day close goal.
- Prepare and review financial reports for senior management.
- Maintain compliance with internal controls, policies, and GAAP standards.
- Develop and implement efficient month-end and year-end processes.
- Collaborate with tax advisors to meet regulatory and tax filing requirements.
- Manage, mentor, and develop the GL accounting team.
- Ensure team performance, conduct reviews, and provide training.
- Partner with Finance, Operations, and Tax teams to ensure accurate reporting.
- Streamline processes and support the 3-day close initiative.
- Prepare schedules and provide documentation for audits and regulatory filings.
- Support external reporting and compliance requirements.
- Participate in system improvements, process automation, and special projects.
- Provide financial analysis for strategic decision-making.
qualifications:
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or equivalent preferred).
- 6+ years in general ledger accounting or balance sheet management, with 2+ years in a managerial role, ideally in brokerage or healthcare insurance.
- Deep knowledge of GAAP, accounting principles, and internal controls.
- Proven experience in month-end/year-end close, financial reporting, and reconciliations.
- Track record of driving process improvements and achieving faster closes (3-day close experience preferred).
- Proficiency in Workday accounting software and advanced Excel (pivot tables, v-lookups).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with high attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent leadership and team management abilities to motivate and mentor staff.
