The SVP, Controller is responsible for accurate and timely financial reporting as well as the day-to-day accounting functions for the facilities management, construction services and corporate divisions. In addition, the SVP, Controller is responsible for the compliance activities around financial audits, business licensing, and tax.
Management:
- Supervise an experienced team of professionals performing various accounting functions such as accounts payable, month-end close, customer billing and financial reporting.
- Develop, document, and implement new accounting processes and policies, as applicable.
- Maintain and keep up to date on relevant accounting guidance and developments.
- Work closely with Account Directors, Construction Executives, Project Managers, Critical Facilities Managers and Business Operations teams to ensure accounts payable, billing and reporting processes for Service Divisions are aligned.
- Work closely with accounting team and various T5 departments in onboarding new customers.
- Oversee the accounts payable and vendor management functions.
- Perform Yardi Voyager administration functions.
- Ensure monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports are completed efficiently and accurately in accordance with agreed upon schedules. This will involve coordination with the VP of Finance and CFO for investor reporting.
- Financial reporting requirements include, but are not limited to: o Year to Date Income Statements, Balance Sheets and Cash Flows (Monthly, Quarterly, Annually) o YTD Budget to Actual Reports and Variance Analysis (Monthly)
- Review customer billings and cost reconciliations monthly to ensure billings are in accordance with signed agreements.
- Ensure the accurate and timely closing of the monthly financials in accordance with the monthly accounting schedule.
- Ensure financial statements are issued accurately in accordance with GAAP and agreed schedules.
- Review and post entries and reconciliations prepared by the accounting team on a monthly basis to ensure accuracy, completeness and timeliness of resolution.
- Maximize the use of system-generated reports, thus also ensuring that the usage of excel is kept to a minimum.
- Ensure compliance with all lender reporting requirements in a timely fashion.
- Maintain up to date knowledge on all accounting guidance and developments that are relevant.
Budgeting:
- Assist in the development of annual budgets for managed properties.
- Review draft annual budgets to ensure compliance with reporting structures, lease obligations and reporting requirements.
- Partner with the Finance Manager in reviewing budget to actual variances on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
- Initiate wire transfers as necessary to manage cash payment obligations as needed.
- Review weekly check runs to ensure payments are properly approved within limits of authority.
- Manage intercompany cash balances.
- Complete various local, state and federal tax filings and payments, such as sales and use tax and personal property return filings. Work with outside consultants to accomplish as needed.
- Assist with coordinating the effective and efficient delivery of all company audits. Manage relationships with audit managers to ensure seamless delivery and good working relationships with all audit teams.
- Efficiently manage all business license applications, renewals and reporting requirements in a timely fashion.
- Through ensuring a detail understanding of loan compliance obligations, effectively manage all loan compliance obligations in a timely fashion.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or relevant field, required
- CPA accreditation and ongoing active membership, required
- Experience in the construction industry
- At least 7 years of post-graduation accounting related work experience with ongoing increases in responsibility, required
- At least 2 years of post CPA commercial experience, required
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, required
- A strong working knowledge of US GAAP, required
- A strong working knowledge of private company accounting, required
- Excellent excel and analysis skills, required
