Randstad is hiring a Principal Medical Writer, Team Lead to join an award-winning in-house agency at a top pharma company. This full-service agency, consistently rated above external competitors, produces cutting-edge digital, video, AR/VR, and print assets. In this leadership role, you'll mentor a team of medical writers working across oncology, immunology, and general medicine. You'll drive scientific content development, collaborate with internal teams and clients, and help grow accounts through trusted client relationships and scientific expertise.
MUST HAVES
PhD, PharmD, or MD
7+ years as a Medical Writer in Medical Communications
5-10 years in a Leadership Role within MedComms
5+ years of Agency Experience

responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Development
- Guide, mentor, and align a team of writers toward shared goals.
- Define clear vision and strategy to meet client and organizational needs.
- Foster team growth, coaching writers with empathy and strong leadership.
- Ensure effective communication across clients, cross-functional teams, and writers.
- Assess team strengths for optimal resource allocation and project assignments.
- Promote a growth mindset, encouraging innovation and continuous learning.
- Develop and review scientifically accurate, high-impact content across multiple deliverables.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in Oncology, Immunology, and General Medicine.
- Lead scientific discussions, presentations, and strategy sessions with clients.
- Ensure content meets scientific rigor, industry standards, and audience engagement.
- Apply scientific insights and data to create innovative medical communications.
- Scope and manage budgets, optimize resources, and ensure financial accountability.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and align departmental performance with financial goals.
- Partner with Account Services, Design, Editorial, and Scientific Strategy teams to foster client relationships and drive organic growth.
- Lead new business pitches, contributing scientific insights and strategic direction.
qualifications:
Leadership & Communication
- Strong leadership and team management skills, fostering a respectful and high-performance culture.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to engage internal teams, clients, and external stakeholders.
- Proven ability to scope, manage budgets, and oversee team members with time-tracked projects.
- Deep understanding of standard medical communications agency workstreams.
- Strong scientific/medical writing skills, with the ability to mentor and provide scientific leadership on complex topics.
- Experienced in translating pharma data (clinical trial, real-world, and preclinical datasets) into engaging content for diverse audiences.
- Ability to handle multiple timelines independently, with minimal additional training.
- Flexibility to adapt and support projects as needed.
- Familiarity with the latest digital and technological tools in medical communications.
- 10+ years of medical writing experience in a leadership role within a medical communications or pharmaceutical agency.
- 7+ years of recent and relevant experience in medical writing supporting medical communications/medical affairs in oncology, immunology, general medicine, or infectious disease.
- Expertise in PowerPoint, particularly in developing MSL slide decks (oncology) for MSLs.
- Advanced degree required (PhD, PharmD, NP, or MD).
- Proven ability to lead scientific discussions and present complex data to internal teams, clients, and stakeholders.
