A Controls Engineer is needed for a manufacturing company considered one of the world's leading innovators in materials science in the Wilmington, NC area. This position involves collaborating with a team to develop and manage computer systems for optical fiber manufacturing, providing production support and troubleshooting, optimizing processes, and participating in projects to enhance efficiency and capacity.

responsibilities:
- Provide production support and troubleshooting for a 24/7 manufacturing operation.
- Work with production associates, technicians, and engineers to ensure reliable operation of automated control systems and user interfaces.
- Support efforts for process and product optimization/improvement.
- Conduct training for engineers and production associates on new processes, equipment, or control systems.
- Participate in capital projects as required.
- Provide after-hours on-call support as needed.
Desired Skills:
- Experience integrating computers into manufacturing processes for efficiency and cost reduction.
- Familiarity with MS Windows, iFIX, EthernetIP I/O, and Microsoft Office.
- Experience with real-time control systems, SCADA, and motion systems (preferred but not required).
- Background in production support within a manufacturing environment.
- strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot low voltage electrical circuitry.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of relevant technical experience.
