A Controls Engineer is needed for a world leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives in the Alpharetta, GA area. This role involves designing, testing, and commissioning control systems for generator switchgear and engineering processes, with a focus on PLC programming, compliance, and customer collaboration in a fast-paced environment.

responsibilities:
- Design, develop, install, and maintain control systems for monitoring and controlling engineering processes.
- Create and follow electrical design schedules from concept to system completion while meeting project deadlines.
- Test, evaluate, modify, and calibrate products and instruments.
- Troubleshoot hardware and process-related issues.
- Analyze plant processes and design improvements to optimize performance.
- Perform technical calculations for design, including electrical requirements and motor controls.
- Ensure compliance with safety objectives, legal standards, and industry regulations.
- Design, test, and commission low and medium voltage switchgear and generator control systems.
- Direct CAD designers in creating wiring and assembly drawings for switchgear controls.
- Proficiency in PLC programming (Ladder Logic, Function Block Diagram, or Structured Text).
- Expertise in at least one PLC platform (Schneider, Allen-Bradley, Woodward, etc.).
- Familiarity with control system design and integration with various PLC controllers.
- Ability to interpret customer specifications and apply them to design platforms.
- Knowledge of NEC, UL, CSA, and ANSI requirements for switchgear controls.
- Understanding of protective relay functions for generator and utility protection.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering preferred, alternatives considered based on experience.
- 5-7 years of experience required, internships considered.
- Master's degree acceptable with 3+ years.
