The Project Engineer will support the Engineering Manager and team in operating and maintaining critical shopping plaza systems, including HVAC, Electrical, and Fire Life Safety, while also managing projects, providing technical expertise, coordinating bids, and ensuring successful execution to support other departments within the company.
- Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related with 5-10 years of related experience and/or training, including 4 years in management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Construction Skills: Ability to read and interpret construction documents and inspect store designs for compliance
- Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of central plant operations, air distribution systems, energy-efficient strategies, building automation systems, Wi-Fi, DAS, fiber optic network infrastructure, internal combustion engines, and fire life safety systems.
- Certifications and Licenses: Universal CFC certification is a plus. Additional certifications in three or more of the following are preferred: HVAC, electrical, mechanical, steam and/or refrigeration systems, process controls, power transmission, or plumbing. Certifications/licenses may also be required by local and state authorities.

responsibilities:
- Demonstrate communication skills by effectively coordinating maintenance activities with other SCP departments and keeping the team and management informed and involved.
- Actively manage and provide technical training for all members of the engineering team.
- Ensure maintenance and repair projects are completed on schedule and within budget.
- Assist in evaluating and handling service requests, dispatching appropriate staff and contractors promptly.
- Estimate HVAC and other mechanical project work, ensuring compliance with applicable standards and requirements for scope, plans, materials, and workmanship.
- Review tenant improvement plans for constructability and compliance with construction standards and building codes.
- Perform energy load audits for proposed tenant spaces, verifying energy components, actual usage, and reviewing air balance reports after construction.
- Support store planning, redistribution, and reconfiguration of base building services (e.g., A/C, Electrical, DCW) to meet future store layouts and demising needs.
- Oversee project coordination, capital resource allocation, and quality assurance throughout project milestones.
- Ensure processes meet quality and safety compliance guidelines.
- Take initiative in analyzing situations and make technical decisions based on specifications, safety, and applicable codes and standards.
- Maintain infrastructure and compliance documentation, including up-to-date building drawings and single-line diagrams, ensuring regulatory compliance with Federal, State, or Local laws.
- Strive to improve efficiency and sustainability of building operations, reducing waste and improving cost-efficiency.
- Foster a safety culture within the engineering team, ensuring compliance with SCP and OSHA safety standards, and assist in organizing and implementing safety training programs.
