A Industrial Engineer is needed for a major U.S. defense contractor and industrial corporation with core manufacturing concentrations in weapons and military and commercial electronics in the Lenexa, KS area. This role focuses on optimizing manufacturing processes, improving product quality, reducing costs, and implementing lean practices through layout design, documentation updates, process audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.

responsibilities:
- Optimize production floor layout for equipment utilization, process flow, and operator efficiency.
- Update Work Instructions and Standard Work for accurate manufacturing processes.
- Capture tribal knowledge from technicians into formal documentation.
- Identify and implement changes to improve products, reduce costs, and optimize productivity.
- Conduct audits on manufacturability and recommend product or process modifications.
- Use tools like Time Studies, Yamazumi Charts, VSM, and Kanban to streamline operations.
- Execute Kaizen events and implement one-piece flow and visual management systems.
- Lead investigations into quality concerns and develop corrective actions.
- Establish efficient operation sequences and maximize resource utilization.
- Prepare project cost estimates and perform cost-benefit analyses.
- Plan and document economic challenges for engineering initiatives.
- Research state-of-the-art technologies and recommend implementations to improve competitiveness.
- Create tools to enhance manufacturing, improve processes, or address safety concerns.
- Research and recommend process improvements, methods, and equipment.
- Design and optimize station loading and line balancing processes.
- Develop and maintain staffing plans based on sales demand.
- Track work assignments and provide regular updates.
- Maintain documentation using software tools.
- Align project plans with corporate policies and budgets.
- Prioritize daily tasks and support management policies.
- Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree + 2 years of experience OR 6 years of relevant experience without a degree.
- Experience with SAP routings and AutoCAD 2D.
- Familiarity with Root Cause Analysis and Line Balancing.
- Background in Lean Manufacturing.
