A Mechanical Engineer is needed for a manufacturing company considered one of the world's leading innovators in materials science in the Hickory, NC area. This role involves providing mechanical design support to improve manufacturing equipment, including designing systems, troubleshooting, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring safety and efficiency in a manufacturing environment.

responsibilities:
- Design tooling and mechanical assemblies using Inventor or AutoCAD.
- Obtain quotes and order necessary components.
- Revise and update equipment drawings.
- Develop experimental plans to validate mechanical designs.
- Assemble or oversee system assembly, with hands-on work opportunities.
- Debug and resolve issues during integration of designs into production equipment.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams (IT, process, electrical).
- Work with operations to update documentation and provide training support as needed.
Required Experience: 5+ years of experience in mechanical system design and integration.
Required Skills:
- Proficiency in mechanical modeling/drawing using Inventor, Vault, and AutoCAD.
- Knowledge of drafting standards, including GD&T.
- Ability to work with machine shops/vendors for part procurement.
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting mechanical systems (e.g., pneumatic controls, flow control, water cooling systems).
- Experience in repairing and maintaining manufacturing equipment.
- Capability to manage mechanics/electricians for equipment assembly and installation.
- Familiarity with plastic extrusion manufacturing.
- Experience troubleshooting electrical systems (low/medium voltage, motion control, PLCs, temperature control systems).
- Knowledge of data analysis techniques using Microsoft Excel, PI, or PowerBI.
- Team-oriented, self-starter, and results-driven.
- Decision-making aligned with team and project goals.
- Adherence to plant policies and procedures.
- Effective collaboration with IT, electrical, and process engineers to meet design requirements.
- Manufacturing or construction floor experience, with a strong emphasis on safety and proactive issue resolution.
