A Process Development Engineer is needed for a manufacturing company considered one of the world's leading innovators in materials science in the Wilmington, NC area. The Process Development Engineer optimizes and designs manufacturing processes and equipment, collaborating across disciplines to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and ensure high-quality production through testing, troubleshooting, and system improvements.

responsibilities:
- Improve processes or equipment developed by R&D.
- Develop new equipment capabilities from concept to prototype to manufacturing demonstration.
- Apply machine design principles to define and execute testing protocols and experiments to validate equipment capability.
- Collaborate with corporate scientists and engineers for modeling and testing.
- Partner with Manufacturing groups to ensure safety, operations, and maintenance requirements are met.
- Engage in functional or matrix leadership to accomplish team objectives.
- strong understanding of physical phenomena (e.g., static/dynamic physics, heat and mass transfer, fluid mechanics).
- Background in machine design and materials processing equipment.
- Ability to design and conduct experiments to solve problems.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills in equipment and process improvement.
- Ability to work with chemical, electrical, and materials engineers to create industrial equipment solutions.
- Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- strong work ethic with excellent organizational and attention-to-detail skills.
- BS in engineering or science (minimum).
- 3+ years of relevant experience in process development or equipment optimization.
