A Metallurgical Lab Analyst is needed for a major U.S. defense contractor and industrial corporation with core manufacturing concentrations in weapons and military and commercial electronics in the Monroe, NC area. A Metallurgical Lab Analyst conducts comprehensive material testing, focusing on metallurgical analysis of additively manufactured components and powder samples, utilizing both destructive and non-destructive testing methods to ensure material properties meet engineering specifications.

responsibilities:
- Prepare metallurgical specimens using equipment for cutting, mounting, polishing, and etching.
- Conduct microscopy and metallurgical analyses to evaluate sample thickness, density, microstructure, and surface roughness.
- Perform destructive testing to determine mechanical properties such as hardness, tensile strength, and fatigue strength.
- Prepare and analyze metal powder samples for chemical composition and physical characteristics, including size, shape, and distribution.
- Collaborate with material science, quality, engineering, and planning teams to support and document necessary tests.
- Operate and maintain metallurgical lab equipment, developing a preventive maintenance program.
- Coordinate with equipment manufacturers for troubleshooting, maintenance, and calibration.
- Manage procurement, receipt, and inventory levels of consumables required for equipment operation and testing.
- Typically requires an AA/AS degree and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or
- A University Degree in a related field or in absence of a degree, 4 years of relevant experience.
