An Opto-Mechanical Process Development Engineer is needed for a manufacturing company considered one of the world's leading innovators in materials science in the Fairport, NY area. This role will develop and implement new opto-mechanical manufacturing processes for precision and laser optics, ensuring seamless integration with product development, risk assessment, and production teams.

responsibilities:
- Apply DF/X principles to minimize costs, eliminate waste, and ensure stable processes.
- Participate in Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR) and Critical Design Reviews (CDR) for new product development.
- Conduct Manufacturing Risk Assessments and oversee Risk Reduction activities.
- Develop and specify new manufacturing techniques, tools, fixtures, and test equipment.
- Create process flow charts, work instructions, checklists, and other build strategy documentation.
- Ensure prototype and pilot builds meet quality and delivery requirements.
- Train manufacturing personnel on new processes and capabilities.
- Stay up to date with manufacturing trends and collaborate with industry experts.
- Identify and recommend activities to address manufacturing capability gaps.
- Optical metrology (interferometers, profilometers, autocollimators).
- CNC machining and programming (G-code, MasterCam).
- 3D solid modeling (Creo CAD software).
- Manufacturing process development in an optics environment.
- Plano polishing and pitch lapping.
- Understanding of optical coatings and high-power laser interactions.
- BS in Optical, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering or
- AAS with 10+ years of optics experience.
- 3+ years in optics manufacturing.
- Precision machining, measurement, and assembly.
- Optical materials, components, and coatings.
- Hands-on experience with high-precision optical and mechanical assemblies.
