A Drafting/CAD Technician is needed for a manufacturing company considered one of the world's leading innovators in materials science in the Painted Post, NY area. This role will provide mechanical design, drafting, and technical support for industrial thermal process equipment, utilizing AutoCAD and SolidWorks to assist engineers in component design, documentation, and equipment installation.

responsibilities:
- Modify design layouts of mechanical systems using 2D/3D CAD software.
- Revise assembly and detail drawings for robot tooling, machine components, and equipment.
- Assist in preparing documentation packages, including drawings and written materials.
- Compile spare parts lists based on vendor or engineer recommendations.
- Assist engineers in specifying commercial material handling equipment and systems.
- Support project teams by estimating, tracking, and reporting costs and project timelines.
- Prepare training materials and assist in training plant/customer personnel.
- Effectively communicate technical ideas through graphics, writing, and oral presentations.
- Coordinate with vendors for component selection and write purchase requisitions.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
- Ability to work in a team-based, highly matrixed environment.
- strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Ability to select mechanical parts from vendor catalogs or through vendor communication.
- Technical curiosity and mechanical aptitude.
- Knowledge of ANSI drawing standards.
- Ability to work independently on drafting and design tasks.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Willingness to mentor technicians and advise engineers on best practices.
- Minimum 2-year technical degree in Mechanical Technology, CAD, or related field.
- 2-3 years of relevant experience.
