A Category Manager is needed for a utility holding company in MN, CO, western WI, Upper Peninsula of MI, Eastern SD & ND, west Texas, and southeast NM areas. The Category Manager develops and executes sourcing strategies for high-impact categories, manages supplier relationships, negotiates contracts, mitigates risks, and drives continuous improvement to optimize cost, quality, and operational efficiency.

responsibilities:
- Develop and execute category strategies for multiple high-impact categories.
- Lead competitive sourcing events and supplier selection processes.
- Conduct supply, demand, market, commodity, and cost analyses to inform category strategies.
- Monitor industry trends and supplier risk profiles to keep strategies current.
- Implement optimal inventory strategies in collaboration with logistics teams.
- Develop and manage supplier relationships to improve cost, quality, and delivery performance.
- Establish supplier performance scorecards and track continuous improvement efforts.
- Lead contract negotiations and ensure supplier compliance with contract terms.
- Resolve disputes with suppliers and manage contract claims to minimize costs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and purchasing/sourcing systems.
- strong interpersonal, relationship management, and customer service skills.
- Ability to attend and participate in meetings as required.
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 5 years in sourcing, procurement, or logistics.
- At least 2 years of experience in contract formation, negotiation, and project management preferred.
- Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) certification preferred.
