A Quantum Hardware Design Engineer is needed for an American multinational technology company that develops, manufactures, licenses, supports, and sells computer software, consumer electronics, personal computers, and related services in the Reston, VA area. This job designs, tests, and develops qubit technologies for advanced quantum computing.

responsibilities:
- Research and describe key aspects of qubit and component technologies.
- Propose, design, and simulate novel approaches to qubits and qubit gates.
- Interface with modeling, fabrication, measurement, hardware, and systems teams to accelerate quantum computing subsystems.
- Build cryogenic testing systems for solid-state qubits and conduct measurements.
- Design and model multiple qubit and quantum gate approaches.
- Stay updated on relevant technology trends in quantum computing.
- Bridge the gap between hardware engineers and software/system integration teams.
- Evaluate reporting formats, cost and schedule constraints, and security requirements for product roadmaps.
- Experience: 8-10 years in the field.
- Education: PhD in Physics, Quantum Information Science, or related discipline, with 2+ years of experience.
- Experience in building cryogenic experiments and measuring solid-state qubits.
- Deep practical knowledge of semiconductor and superconducting device physics.
- strong understanding of solid-state quantum computer control and architectures.
- Ability to tie scientific progress to product acceleration timelines.
- Creativity and problem-solving abilities.

- Ability to work in a fast-moving environment with a geographically distributed team.
- Willingness to travel (25% domestic/international).
