A Mechanical Project Engineer is needed for a manufacturing company considered one of the world's leading innovators in materials science in the Wilmington, NC area. This role involves hands-on installation, troubleshooting, and documentation of mechanical and electrical systems for production equipment while supervising technicians and contractors to ensure efficient setup, modification, and maintenance.

responsibilities:
- Execute initial equipment setup and debugging before turnover to operations.
- Provide third-level troubleshooting support and direct contract technicians and trades for component replacement and design changes.
- Procure and expedite materials for new or modified equipment.
- Develop and oversee the use of mechanical and electrical installation checklists and schedules.
- Prepare work orders and direct maintenance personnel and outside contractors in the fabrication, assembly, testing, and installation of equipment.
- Review and update installation documentation and drawings as needed.
- Redline existing drawings and coordinate with drafting services to resolve design issues.
- Train technicians, internal maintenance, and contractors on new equipment installation procedures.
- Majority of time spent on the production floor working on equipment.
- strong hands-on mechanical aptitude.
- Understanding of process variables: flow, temperature, rate, pressure, level.
- Thorough knowledge of mechanical drive trains, electrical and pneumatic actuators.
- BS in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or Project Management.
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience.
