Our client, a leader in renewable energy, is seeking a Controls Engineer for a 12+ month contract role to drive the design, execution, and commissioning of SCADA and control solutions for utility-scale renewable projects (Solar, Wind, and Battery). This role is pivotal in ensuring projects meet technical and operational standards from development through operation.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for SCADA system design, coordinating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. Hybrid work schedule with 3 days in the Austin office required.

responsibilities:
- Work on a team resposible for SCADA system design, configuration, and commissioning for individual projects.
- Coordinate with project managers and engineering SMEs to align SCADA requirements with project timelines.
- Define control system strategies based on project-specific needs, grid codes, and contractual obligations.
- Develop and oversee technical requirements, networking design (IP addressing, VLANs), and plant control strategies.
- Review contractor designs to ensure operational alignment with SCADA standards.
- Commission substation equipment, switches, and plant networks.
- Drive process improvements and contribute to the strategic goals of the SCADA team.
Education:
- BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Control Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- 8+ years of professional experience in control systems and SCADA platforms (any industry).
- Experience within the renewable energy or power industry is a plus.
- Proven knowledge of networking design (fiber/ethernet, switch, VLAN configuration).
- Hands-on experience with RTU configuration and plant controllers.
- Experience developing technical documentation (exhibits, scope of work, functional descriptions).
- Proven track record in commissioning networking and plant control systems.
- Experience managing contractors on technical projects.
- Ability to work in a team environment in support of various projects.
- Proven problem-solving and documentation skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- High attention to detail and a proactive mindset.
- Passion for renewable energy and sustainability.
