A Functional Safety Engineer is needed for a world leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives in the Mossville, IL area. The Functional Safety Engineer ensures the safety and reliability of Resources Industries (RI) machine models by conducting risk analyses, developing and implementing functional safety concepts per ISO 19014 standards, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to maintain compliance throughout the product lifecycle.

responsibilities:
- Perform Machine Controls System Safety Assessment (MCSSA), Bowtie, and other risk analyses.
- Manage and update MCSSA contents for New Product Introduction (NPI) and product refreshes.
- Facilitate development and updates of Safety Concepts with performance, controls, and electronics engineers.
- Apply SISTEMA tool to ensure safety control functions meet ISO 19014 performance levels.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Create and update functional safety letters for product launches and customer deliveries.
- Document and promote best practices for functional safety execution.
- Guide other product teams in functional safety activities.
- Stay updated with industry developments in functional safety and control functions.
- Track project progress using Azure DevOps.
- Development of electronic embedded control, electro-hydraulic, electric drive, or battery control systems.
- Understanding of functional safety principles.
- Knowledge of software development lifecycle.
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Manufacturing, Mechanical) or related fields.
- 8+ years in relevant roles.
