A Mechanical Design Technician is needed for a manufacturing company considered one of the world's leading innovators in materials science in the Wilmington, NC area. This role involves designing, modifying, and documenting mechanical equipment layouts using CAD software, ensuring accuracy, functionality, and compliance with company standards while collaborating with teams to improve equipment design and installation processes.

responsibilities:
- Design mechanical equipment layouts following company Machine Drafting Standards using AutoCAD 2023 and Inventor 2023.
- Create and update drawing packages, equipment build packages, part lists, illustrations, and machine specifications.
- Modify existing designs and documentation to improve accuracy and completeness.
- Assemble complete machine design packages, ensuring accuracy and adding necessary details.
- Re-design mechanical components to reduce costs, fix equipment interferences, and improve functionality.
- Create, review, and update installation documentation and drawings.
- Redline existing drawings and work with drafting services to resolve design issues.
- Implement design changes to address equipment and process problems.
- Ensure designs meet form, fit, and function requirements set by internal customers and project managers.
- Provide sketches or marked-up drawings as needed for projects and evolving equipment.
- AAS or BS in Mechanical Engineering Technology or Mechanical Engineering (Equivalent work experience may be considered).
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in mechanical design or drafting.
- Self-motivated and results-oriented.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities and work well with varied job requirements.
- strong teamwork skills and ability to work in small teams.
- Organized with attention to detail.
- Experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Proficiency in pneumatic and electrical schematics.
- strong understanding of mechanical drive trains, electrical and pneumatic actuators.
