In this role you will lead and manage engineering design teams and consultants in the planning, development, and execution of potable water infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance, quality, and alignment with project goals, budgets, and regulatory standards.

responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a design team responsible for multiple potable water projects, including water supply, treatment, storage, and distribution system designs.
- Prepare engineering design plans and specifications for various water infrastructure projects.
- Oversee preparation of site plans, including grading plans, stormwater management systems, and access routes to pumps, wells, treatment facilities, and pipelines.
- Supervise, assign, and evaluate the work of assigned staff, including conducting performance evaluations and preparing career development plans.
- Coordinate internal teams and external consultants to ensure timely completion of design projects, maintaining close collaboration with operations, customer service, and water quality departments.
- Ensure compliance with California State Water Resources Control Board regulations, including oversight and management of waivers for non-compliant pipeline crossings and coordination with the Water Quality Department.
- Prioritize design projects and manage schedules and budgets, identifying and implementing corrective actions as needed to meet project objectives.
- Ensure that project milestones for design schedule and budget are met across all assigned water infrastructure projects.
- Conduct quality control reviews of design deliverables prepared by in-house staff and external consultants.
- Implement and maintain quality assurance protocols for the internal design team.
- Manage consultant engagements, including reviewing and approving invoices.
- Review and provide technical feedback on submittals and field changes during the construction phase of projects.
- Represent the company in public forums and stakeholder meetings related to project planning and delivery.
- Provide engineering design support for Capital Improvement Programs, including the development of preliminary design reports, cost estimates, cost-benefit analyses, value engineering reviews, and other technical evaluations.
- Perform or supervise engineering design services for new business-related projects involving water infrastructure.
