A R&D Packaging Engineer for a medical devices and equipment manufacturing company is needed in the Fremont, CA area. This role involves leading the design, development, and compliance of medical device packaging and labeling solutions while collaborating cross-functionally to support EU MDR implementation, drive continuous improvement, and manage projects in a regulated environment.

responsibilities:

Support EU MDR (European Union Medical Device Regulation) execution and implementation for SNV products.

Design and develop top-tier packaging and labeling solutions for both sterile and non-sterile medical devices from concept to commercialization.

Drive continuous improvement initiatives using current procedures and Voice of the Customer input to identify best practices.

Develop packaging and labeling components to enhance customer experience, collaborating with drafters for 3D models and artwork.

Apply knowledge of the development life cycle to deliver high-quality outputs.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams (quality, manufacturing, regulatory, clinical, marketing, R&D, supply chain, vendors, and kitting centers) across geographies to ensure project success.

Ensure compliance with quality requirements and lead initiatives that simplify regulatory compliance, especially in complex and evolving areas.

Support audits, non-conformance investigations, and CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Actions) processes.

Lead small-scale packaging/labeling projects or co-manage large-scale programs to implement portfolio-wide changes.

Mentor or supervise technical staff when required.

Exhibit strong service orientation and manage a high and varied internal workload under tight timelines.



Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Packaging, Industrial, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  
  
  
  
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a highly regulated industry.
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in packaging design development within medical device, biotech, or pharmaceutical sectors.
  
  
  
  
• Proven ability to resolve packaging-related design and process issues in commercial products.
  
  
  
  
• Familiarity with design controls and packaging industry standards (e.g., ISO 11607, ASTM, ISTA).
  
  
  
  
• Knowledge of database-driven labeling systems, label creation, and IFU (Instructions for Use) development.
  
  
  
  
• Proficiency in statistical analysis and communication of findings.
  
  
  
  
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  
  
  
  
• strong technical and project management abilities to deliver projects on time and within budget.
