Key Responsibilities:
Oversee the entire coding process for inpatient and outpatient services, including E/M level code assignment for Emergency Departments. Review accounts to ensure accurate MS-DRG assignments, APGs for Day Surgery, and appropriate diagnosis/procedure codes. Monitor daily coding queues to ensure timely record coding. Demonstrate expertise in DRG payor issues, clinical documentation requirements, and coding standards. Conduct audits of coding staff to evaluate accuracy and ensure compliance with documentation and coding standards. Review and interpret statistical and narrative analysis reports to maintain timely and accurate coding practices. Manage and support Health Information Management coding staff, monitoring productivity and maintaining accurate budget data. Develop and deliver education programs to physicians and staff to improve coding outcomes. Collaborate with EPIC teams to evaluate software updates and assist with testing software changes. Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of job responsibilities. Qualifications:
Required:
- Education: Associate Degree in a related field; OR two (2) additional years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
- Credentials: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS).
- Experience:
- 5 years’ coding experience in an acute care hospital setting.
- Proven experience managing coding processes.
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Health Care, Health Information Technology, or a related field.
- Experience:
- 5 years’ coding experience.
- 5 years of supervisory experience in an acute care hospital setting.
- In-depth knowledge of medical coding guidelines, DRG payor issues, and clinical documentation requirements.
- analytical skills for auditing and evaluating coding accuracy and compliance.
- Excellent leadership and organizational skills to manage a coding team effectively.
- Proficiency with EPIC and other health information management software.
salary: $67,000 - $110,000 per year

Responsibilities

3. Randomly reviews accounts to ensure the most appropriate MS-DRG for inpatients, APGs for Day Surgery and the most appropriate diagnosis/procedure codes on outpatients are assigned and the most appropriate E/M level.
4. Performs daily monitoring of essential Queues for timely coding of records.
5. Demonstrates knowledge of DRG payor issues, documentation opportunities, clinical documentation requirements and coding requirements.
6. Performs audits of coding staff to a. Evaluate documentation for assigned principal diagnosis, pertinent secondary diagnosis and procedures for accurate DRG assignment, risk of mortality and severity of illness b. Evaluate physician queries created for coding clarification.
7. Evaluates and interprets statistical and narrative analysis reports of department services to ensure appropriate and timely coding.
8. Manages Health Information Management coding staff.
9. Maintains accurate budget data and monitors coding staff productivity.
10. Develops and provides education to physicians and others to improve coding outcomes.
11. Performs liaison duties with EPIC to evaluate software updates and assists with testing of software changes.
12. All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.
