Responsibilities
Draft and Prepare Initial Pleadings
- Tasks ranging from preparing a simple case caption and signature block for basic pleadings to drafting more involved documents like certificates of service, voluntary dismissals, motions for extension of time or motions for leave, answers to petitions (including affirmative defenses), and similar documents.
- Verify whether the relevant Court or County provides a pre-made form for subpoenas or if one needs to be created from scratch.
- Adding a letterhead, recipient information, and a signature block, assisting with letter preparation can save valuable time for the attorney.
- Discovery requests: examples from previous cases can often be referenced to guide what questions need to be asked.
- Responses: You will need to be familiar with the documents we have or still need to obtain, and proactively gather them from the client or other sources.
- Objections: Take initiative in drafting objections for each set of discovery requests we receive.
- Responsible for recalling details about the case, including what documents and information are already in the file, what potential witnesses have been interviewed, and what pleadings or discovery have been filed.
- Ensure that both electronic and hard files are consistently organized and up to date.
