Key Responsibilities:
- Lead Furniture Design Projects: Manage and drive the design process for new and existing furniture products using SolidWorks, from concept to final production.
- Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor a team of design engineers, providing technical guidance, feedback, and support to ensure the team delivers high-quality work within project timelines.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with the product development, manufacturing, marketing, and sales teams to ensure designs meet customer requirements, are manufacturable, and align with brand objectives.
- Design for Manufacturing: Create 3D models, detailed technical drawings, and assembly instructions for furniture pieces. Optimize designs for cost-effective production, focusing on material selection, ease of assembly, and overall efficiency.
- Prototyping & Testing: Oversee the development of prototypes and conduct design validation through testing and analysis to ensure functionality, durability, and safety standards.
- Material Selection & Sourcing: Select appropriate materials (wood, metal, upholstery, etc.) for different furniture designs, considering both aesthetic appeal and structural integrity.
- Innovation & Trends: Stay current with industry trends and innovations in furniture design, incorporating cutting-edge materials, technologies, and design principles into projects.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure all designs comply with company quality standards and industry regulations, including sustainability and environmental considerations.
- Documentation & Reporting: Prepare technical documentation, including product specifications, CAD models, and reports. Maintain clear records of design revisions and updates.
- Problem-Solving: Troubleshoot design and production issues as they arise, proposing creative and effective solutions to meet production goals and deadlines.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (preferred) in Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Expert proficiency in SolidWorks, including experience with 3D modeling, assemblies, and detailed technical drawings.
- Experience in furniture design is highly preferred, with a strong understanding of manufacturing processes (e.g., wood, metal, upholstery).
- Knowledge of materials and finishes used in furniture manufacturing (wood, metal, fabric, leather, etc.) and an understanding of their properties, durability, and aesthetic appeal.
- Proven leadership skills, with the ability to manage and inspire a design team, as well as collaborate effectively across departments.
- Strong understanding of product lifecycle management (PLM) systems and version control.
- Experience with prototyping and working closely with manufacturers to refine designs and address any production challenges.
- Attention to detail and the ability to balance creativity with practical functionality.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present and explain complex design concepts to stakeholders.
- Experience with furniture ergonomics and user-centered design principles is a plus.
Skills
- Certification in SolidWorks (CSWP or CSWE) is a plus.
- Experience with CAD software for woodworking or metalworking (e.g., AutoCAD, Rhino) is desirable.
- Sustainability knowledge and experience designing environmentally-friendly furniture solutions.
- Familiarity with the latest trends in furniture design, from modern styles to classic pieces.
