We're seeking a talented Acme-Gridley / Davenport Screw Machine Setup Operator to join our team.
What you'll do:
- Set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision brass parts.
- Read blueprints and job orders to understand product specifications.
- Position and secure tools, collets, and stock pushers.
- Adjust machine settings for optimal performance.
- Monitor machine operations and inspect finished parts.
- Replace worn tools and sharpen cutting tools.
- Train new operators.
- 3-5 years of experience with Acme-Gridley and Davenport screw machines is a plus!**
- Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read blueprints and interpret technical specifications.
- Proficiency in using measuring tools and precision instruments.
- Physical fitness to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.

salary: $41,600 - $52,000 per year

Responsibilities
- Reads blueprints or job orders for product specifications such as dimensions, tolerances, number of parts to be machined, and tooling instructions such as cutting speeds, feed rates, depth of cuts, and cutting tools to be used.
- Positions and secures specified collets, bushings, and stock pushers onto stock feeding mechanism and loads bar stock into feeding mechanism.
- Installs and adjusts specified cams, gears, and stops to control stock and tool movements at each station.
- Positions and secures tools in tool holders.
- Sets cutting speeds and feed rates.
- Sets controls to cycle machine through settings, stopping machine and adjusting tool positions to allow for operational factors such as timing, clearance between moving parts, and chip removal.
- Starts machine, observes operation and inspects first run and sample workpiece to ensure machining conforms to specifications.
- Replaces worn tools.
- Operates bench grinder to sharpen tools.
- Performs on the job training for operators as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Ability to use lathes, milling machines, grinders, and other machine tools to produce precision metal parts.
- Ability to communicate both with written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to interpret technical blueprints, and specifications.
- Ability to have concentration for accuracy and agility.
- Ability to understand metalworking processes.
