Responsibilities
- Set up and operate various bench and machine tools, such as lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and grinders, to create precision parts, tools, and fixtures based on drawings, sketches, and operation sheets. Experience with both manual and automated machinery, including CNC – Bridgeport and Haas Minimill, is required.
- Read and interpret complex blueprints and apply shop mathematics to the tasks.
- Work with extremely precise tolerances using various machine shop tools and equipment.
- Determine the appropriate machines and the sequence of operations needed for each task.
- Choose the correct cutting tools for each task and ensure they are properly ground.
- Use a range of precision measuring instruments, such as micrometers, vernier calipers, and measurement scales, to check work and achieve the desired tolerances.
- Act as a lead in assigning tasks and overseeing department operations when the Machine Shop Supervisor is absent.
- Foster a positive work environment through professional and courteous communication and conduct with supervisors, co-workers, clients, and vendors.
