Responsibilities
A forklift operator, also known as a material handler, is responsible for moving materials around a warehouse, factory, or other industrial site using forklifts and other equipment. Their duties include:
- Following procedures: Following all processes and procedures, including safety guidelines and recommendations
- Communicating: Using radio communications to determine priorities
- Recording: Maintaining accurate production records and reporting issues
- Cleaning: Cleaning the work area as directed
- Operating machinery: Safely operating forklifts, hand trucks, pallet wrapping machines, and other tools
- Moving materials: Loading and unloading pallets, stacking boxes, and moving materials around the facility
- Preparing merchandise: Ensuring merchandise is prepared and secured for safe transport
- Maintaining machinery: Performing regular maintenance on forklifts and other tools, and inspecting machinery for repairs
