A CNC operator, or CNC machinist, uses computer-controlled machinery to cut, bend, mill, and drill parts and tools. They also maintain and improve the machines.  Skills and requirements 

• Knowledge of CNC hardware and software

• Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, geometry, and algebra

• Ability to follow written and oral instructions

• Ability to stand, walk, reach, and lift

• Good vision, including close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

Responsibilities

• Conduct tests: Run tests before starting operations to check that machines are producing parts as specified 

• Inspect parts: Review and measure finished parts to compare them with requirements 

• Calibrate machines: Ensure machines are operating at the proper levels 

• Manage materials: Manage raw materials and parts 

• Troubleshoot: Troubleshoot parts when issues occur 

• Set up and operate machinery: Set up machines for production, and program them to complete cycles 
• Read blueprints: Translate blueprints into workable components 
• Manipulate metal: Cut and rework metal to build parts 
• Perform maintenance: Maintain machinery daily and ensure it's performing properly
