Summary:
The Project Engineer will support the design and deployment of both hardware and software solutions in collaboration with principal engineers and cross-functional teams. This role involves utilizing commercially available hardware-including PLCs, HMIs, PCs, embedded PCs, Client/Servers, Drives/VFDs, sensors, and actuators-along with industry-standard software and development platforms. The engineer will be responsible for designing, programming, simulating, and commissioning industrial control systems for applications across various industries, including metals manufacturing, mining, material handling, pulp & paper, marine, and oil & gas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design drive control systems with a strong understanding of power systems.
- Expertise in AC/DC drive control architectures.
- Develop system designs for plant and machinery automation.
- Program PLCs, HMIs, and other industrial equipment.
- Create electrical and electronic control system schematics and layouts, including VFDs/DC drives, using AutoCAD Electrical and Mechanical (EPLAN knowledge is a plus).
- Conduct system simulations, testing, and prepare documentation.
- Provide estimates for project RFQs and engage directly with sales teams and customers for RFQ discussions.
- Perform system commissioning, requiring up to 20% travel.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Controls Engineering.
- A Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus.
- At least 7 years of experience in the design and implementation of industrial control systems utilizing PLCs, HMIs, and drives (VFDs and DC drives).
- Minimum of 7 years programming PLCs, HMIs, and related industrial control equipment.
- A minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in schematic and panel layout design.
- Familiarity with C#, VB, .NET, OPC, and SQL is a plus.
- Preferred knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70, and UL 508 standards.
- Hands-on experience with industrial communication protocols such as EtherNet/IP, EtherNet TCP/IP, DeviceNET, ProfiNET, and Modbus TCP/IP is desirable.
- Experience with Rockwell, GE, Siemens, and Schneider PLC platforms.
