Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and technically skilled Battery Systems Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for evaluating and selecting battery suppliers, ensuring their technology aligns with customer needs and project specifications. You will work closely with the product management and service teams, serving as a subject matter expert in battery technology, including cells, modules, packs, and battery management systems (BMS). This role requires a strong background in battery chemistry, system engineering principles, and technical communication. The successful candidate will be passionate about the evolving stationary storage market, with a commitment to staying ahead of industry trends and advancements.
Summary:
- Assess various Li-Ion battery suppliers to ensure their technology aligns with customer needs and project specifications.
- Conduct thorough due diligence on battery suppliers' offerings, including cell, module, pack, and container levels.
- Compare battery technologies to generate a comprehensive evaluation of key characteristics, identifying differentiators and market-leading solutions.
- Stay up to date on the latest advancements in the stationary storage market and advise the product manager on how these trends may influence future product roadmaps.
- Maintain expertise in relevant codes and standards for stationary storage batteries and battery enclosures within the industry.
- Define hardware and software requirements to support the procurement of battery cells and packs from original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
- Serve as a subject matter expert in battery technology, including packs, containers, and battery management systems (BMS).
- Assist the service team in troubleshooting battery-related issues for deployed projects.
- Strong understanding of components within a battery pack or rack.
- Extensive knowledge of battery chemistry and recent advancements that set suppliers apart in the stationary storage market.
- Expertise in system engineering principles as they apply to battery packs and battery systems.
- Broad technical knowledge across multiple engineering disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, electronics, controls, materials, thermal, safety, test/validation, and manufacturing.
- Excellent technical communication skills across all levels of an organization.
- Passion for battery technology and enthusiasm for sharing expertise with others.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in designing and developing high-voltage battery systems.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Chemical Engineering.
- Willingness to travel up to 15%.
