responsibilities:
As a Senior Power BI Developer, your typical day includes developing and optimizing complex data models in Power BI Desktop, writing advanced DAX calculations, and designing intuitive dashboards for finance executives. You'll analyze performance metrics, troubleshoot data discrepancies, and collaborate with finance stakeholders to refine report requirements. Time will be spent examining SQL Server procedures and data warehouse structures, ensuring data flows efficiently into Power BI models. You'll implement best practices for data governance, work with external tools like Tabular Editor and DAX Studio, and document technical solutions. Some days involve presenting solutions to management, training users, or leading testing sessions for new deployments. Throughout, you'll apply your expertise to transform chaotic data structures into organized, high-performance business intelligence solutions.
qualifications:
- 5+ years of Microsoft Power BI and SQL Server development experience
- Proven expertise creating advanced data models, M power queries, and complex DAX calculations
- Experience implementing enterprise-grade Power BI features (Calculation Groups, Aggregation Tables, Composite Models)
- Strong proficiency with Power BI Desktop, Service, Apps, and external tools (Tabular Editor, DAX Studio)
- Demonstrated experience with data warehouse design principles and star schema/Kimball methodology
- Advanced T-SQL development skills creating stored procedures, indexes, constraints, and other database objects
- Experience with data visualization best practices and dashboard design for executive audiences
- Understanding of performance optimization techniques for both Power BI and SQL Server
- Knowledge of security implementation (RLS/OLS) and governance in Power BI environments
- Familiarity with DevOps/DataOps principles for BI development
- Degree in computer science or equivalent experience
- Formal training in Business Intelligence methodologies preferred
