job summary: A Controls Engineer is needed for a world leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives in the Alpharetta, GA area. This role designs and commissions low/medium voltage generator paralleling switchgear systems by developing custom PLC programs, managing BOMs, guiding cross-functional teams, and ensuring compliance with industry standards in a multi-project engineering environment. location: Alpharetta, Georgia job type: Contract salary: $45.03 - 63.04 per hour work hours: 8am to 5pm education: Associates responsibilities: Interpret customer specifications and technical drawings while ensuring compliance with NEC, UL, CSA, and ANSI standards.Design and commission custom switchgear and generator control systems.Create Bills of Materials (BOM) in ERP systems for generator control systems.Provide technical direction to CAD designers for wiring and assembly drawings.Guide purchasing/procurement based on system requirements.Support production during the manufacturing of equipment.Write and validate PLC programs to control generator systems and interface with various communication protocols.Execute and support testing, design, and commissioning for generator paralleling switchgear.Manage and execute multiple projects simultaneously.Interact with internal and external customers to meet project milestones.Customize PLC software and hardware templates for each system. Skills: Proficiency in PLC programming using IEC 61131 languages (e.g., Ladder Logic, FBD, Structured Text).Experience with control system design involving multi-vendor PLCs and communication interfaces.Expertise in at least one PLC platform: Schneider Momentum, M340, M580, Allen-Bradley ControlLogix/CompactLogix, Woodward MSLC/DSLC, EasyGen, or LS5.Ability to interpret and implement NEC, UL, CSA, and ANSI standards in control designs.Familiarity with protective relays and generator/utility protection schemes.
