We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Coding Manager to oversee and manage the medical coding process for inpatient and outpatient services. This position plays a critical role in ensuring accurate, timely coding of all diagnoses and procedures, particularly those with DRG-dependent reimbursement. The Coding Manager will also perform audits, resolve coding issues, and provide education to improve outcomes. Key Responsibilities:Oversee the entire coding process for inpatient and outpatient services, including E/M level code assignment for Emergency Departments. Review accounts to ensure accurate MS-DRG assignments, APGs for Day Surgery, and appropriate diagnosis/procedure codes. Monitor daily coding queues to ensure timely record coding. Demonstrate expertise in DRG payor issues, clinical documentation requirements, and coding standards. Conduct audits of coding staff to evaluate accuracy and ensure compliance with documentation and coding standards. Review and interpret statistical and narrative analysis reports to maintain timely and accurate coding practices. Manage and support Health Information Management coding staff, monitoring productivity and maintaining accurate budget data. Develop and deliver education programs to physicians and staff to improve coding outcomes. Collaborate with EPIC teams to evaluate software updates and assist with testing software changes. Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of job responsibilities. Qualifications: Required: Education: Associate Degree in a related field; OR two (2) additional years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree. Credentials: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS). Experience: 5 years’ coding experience in an acute care hospital setting. Proven experience managing coding processes. Preferred: Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Health Care, Health Information Technology, or a related field. Experience: 5 years’ coding experience. 5 years of supervisory experience in an acute care hospital setting. Skills and Competencies: In-depth knowledge of medical coding guidelines, DRG payor issues, and clinical documentation requirements. analytical skills for auditing and evaluating coding accuracy and compliance.
